You need to be young to raise a puppy. I forgot how much work it is. I'm EXHAUSTED!!!!
Mojo doesn't stop for a minute. He's either chewing everything in site, running and playing or Pee-ing all over the house. BUT, he's so cute!!!!! I guess he's normal for a 9 week old. Perseverence is my new motto. HE WILL CALM DOWN AND BE TRAINED!!
I haven't had a chance to do anything but keep an eye on him and make sure he doesn't get into
trouble.

We broke down and adopted a new puppy. So far, he has been a good little dog. He slept all night(in bed with us). He is so cuddley and loves to play. He's been a perfect little boy. Still doesn't understand the concept of going outside to pee. That will be our biggest obstacle. Believe it or not, he also has the same Birthday as me. He's really dark in color(so different than Sunny). I love him so much already.

Instead of using Dabber's, I used alcohol inks. I like the effect better.

It seems to me that all the tags are beginning to look alike. Too much of the same color.

Can't believe I'm obscessed with these tags . I think the reason I'm liking it is the fact that I have to

search in my stash of supplies and stuff to improvise. I wonder how much it would cost to buy all of Tim's products to make the 12 tags. I have none of his Christmas dies. I've been down loading

photos from web sites who sell his products. I copy them to photoshop and minipulate them to the correct size. Am I saving money or what? Where there's a will there's a way!

Can't believe it took me all morning to create this. I didn't want to copy Tims version exactly.
It took me awhile experimenting with differnt colors and elements.
I love his new color distress ink(Iced Spruce), but I hope he switches to another color tomorrow.

TIME FLIES AGAIN

I can't believe it's almost Thanksgiving. This is the first time in many years i'm not having it at my house. Usually, by this time, I'm busy planning, shopping and getting nervous about all the cooking.
I must say, it feels good, although I'll miss my family (son and grandchildren). Keith is with his dad in North Carolina. Miranda and Alex are in Disney (with Mom).
I've been busy with alot of my art committments. Some,. still in the planning stages.
My class "Gut Art" has ended and now I'm taking a free Mandala Class.

I just finished my Christmas Inchies and Row Houses. Need to send them off. They were fun to create.
My next project will be PERSONAL MAP MAKING . A tutorial by Jill Berry on the Art Blog Hop.

Sandy came over the other day and we finally played with our Gel Plates we bought last summer at Create. We ended up with a bunch of MONOPRINTS. It was so much fun. Good background paper.

SUNNY

Sunny (my little friend for 14 years) was put to sleep on October 27th. He became very ill and
there seemed to be no hope for a quality life. It was such a hard decision to make. I know in my heart, he's in a better place and he's not suffering.
Bob and I miss him so much. There's such a big void.
The photo above, is a shrine I made to honor him which will always remind us of how much he was loved. It's sitting on my coffee table which I see every day.

After my husband passed away, I was searching for a new meaning to life.

I accidently came across Seena's book and I knew "SoulCollage" was for me.

It was a perfect way to incorporate my love of collage and my need to find my life purpose.

Little did I know, it would also help with my grieving (see below).

After making my first card, I knew I was hooked! I was in total awe of the process and how it made me connect to my sub-conscious and how it made me aware of deep rooted issues and feelings. Often, I would look at my finished card and wonder where it came from. ME OF COURSE!

SoulCollage® has been in my life for eight years and I intend to continue using it forever. I have participated in a few gatherings and I've shared the process with many of my friends.

I love searching for images. My collection has grown by leaps and bounds and I know it will keep on growing. I'm sure every image I have cut out has a message not yet understood or discovered.

My best advice for anyone just starting out is to LET GO AND LET GOD! Quiet your inner critic and trust yourself.

Card for Cottage Stamper "Lunch Date"

Once a month we meet at Cottage Stamper in St. Charles, Il for a LUNCH DATE.
A group of women get together to swap cards from a technique given to us the previous month by the store owner. Not only do we have fun swapping, but enjoy a very nice lunch. We talk, play and share ideas. Oh, a little shopping too! It's a great way to meet new people who have the same interests.
The above card is my swap for September. I used a Michael Strongs stamp (love him), Tim Holtz Distress Inks, White and black embossing powders and a stamp from for the background by Hero
Arts.
Can't wait to see next month's technique.

MONOTYPE

Thanks to Helen Shafer Garcia and her class I took at CREATE,I've been busy experimenting with monotypes. I went thru the entire process, but I think I filled it in too much . It looks more like a

watercolor painting than a monotype. I guess I need to do more of them to get the feel of it.
Actually I'm enjoying it so much, I'm going to Dick Blick's to get more Rives paper today.

As usual, the summer is speeding by. A few more weeks and we will be viewing all the beautiful fall colors(my favorite).

I'm attaching a photo of our September ATC SWAP. It was a small group because of the Holiday. As usual, we had fun. The Technique for September was Zentagles.

I'm a bit dissapointed that our community Craft Show was CANCELLED! The reason being our Association will not allow children under 18 and it can not be open to the public. Doesn't that suck?
I have spent the past few months focusing on creating items for the show. Now I have all kinds of stuff to sell. I guess I need to find another Venue for it. I'm selling bracelets, guardian angel zipper pulls, purse jewelry and note cards, as well as some Christmas gift card envelopes and tags.
Oh well, I guess I need to be more pro-active in selling. Any ideas?

CREATE RETREAT

I'm back from Create. I took three classes. Enjoyed all of them.
Met with old and new art friends and stayed at the hotel for 2 nights (even thought it was close to home).
It gave me the sense of being away from home.
Below are photos of what I created. Excuse the poor quality of my picture taking. I'm still on a learning curve with my new camera.

The glass book was made in a class with Thomas Ashman
The three minature books were made in a 3 hour class Wednesday nite.
I can't wait for the next retreat to take classes from more instructors.

Had a great time with my siblings and other family members. Naomi, Joel, Rachel and Stella came in from New York. I met them in the city and we went to vist our old neighborhood, HYDE PARK. We walked and walked, saw old and new sights. It was a walk down memory lane.
Later in the day we met the rest of the family for dinner at a Mexican Restaurant on North Wells.
I haven't walked so much since I was in New York last year.
On Saturday, we all went to Joni and David's house for a Barbeque in Rogers Park. As usual, it was great seeing my entire family together. I wish we all lived closer. Hopefully, we can do this every year.

HELLO WORLD

I can't believe so much time has passed since my last entry. Unbelievable!!!!
I've been busy creating (as usual). I'm participating in a show and have spent the last few months preparing for it. I'll upload pics later.
I'm still involved with my ATC group. I'm also participating in a round robin and getting together with mostly art friends and family. A big family reunion is coming up at the end of July. Can't wait.

I signed up for a few classes at CREATE next month. It's so close to home The best thing is there is no air fare and hotel costs. It's alot cheaper than going to "Art Unraveled" in Phoenix. I did reserve a hotel room for 2 nights. I wanted to get the feel of a mini retreat!
No big travel plans at the moment. I'm hoping to go somewhere in the next few months.
Well, enought for now. It felt good to blog again.

What a winter! Not only in the Chicago area, but all over the world. What's going on? It's Too much .

All I've been doing is making cards with flowers, birds, butterflies and anything bright and cheerful.
It keeps my mind off the dullness of winter.
Below are three of my cards.

Since we're not going to Phoenix, I've decided to visit Sandy in Ft. Meyers Florida. I'll be leaving on February 14th. I guess I won't be spending Valentines Day with Bob. Am I being selfish?
I should have waited one more day. Wasn't thinking when I made the reservation. He doesn't
seem bothered by it.
I've been participating in the Sketchbook Challenge. I've actually sketched every day since the 1st of January. I'm finding it very relaxing.
I also signed up for Carla Sonheins "SILLY" workshop. So far I have looked at the assignments,but haven't done them. Just not feeling it right now.

Bob and I made our frist big decision of the year! We've decided to go to Phoenix in February instead
of next week. It just feels like a better time.
It's nice to be able to change plans and have no consequences other than to ourselves..
Now that I know we're still here for a month I'm going to seriously work on my projects.

I spent a good part of New Years Day trying to get my PC to link up to the internet. For the life of me, I couldn't get it to work. I still can't. I NEED AN EXPERT to help me link up. I hope I don't spend the entire day trying again. It's driving me crazy especially because it worked the last time I used it.
I hate unfinished business. Hmmmm, need to get out and forget about it.

I FINALLY WENT OUT

I decided it was about time to get out and see the world again. I've been in the house for 4 days.
This cold wintery weather makes me want to hybernate. I told myself to get up , get dressed and GET GOING.
As usual, my mission was to visit a store that had something artsy and inspiring.
After going to the bank and having them count my hoarded change , I ended up with an extra $80.00 in my pocket. It was buring a hole.
So, off I went to Geneva to visit the "Designers Desk", a needlepoint store with hundreds of painted canvases and racks of beautiful colored fibers. After browsing awhile, I managed to buy a canvas to work on while I'm traveling.. This should be a challenge because it's a blank piece. I have to take the chart in the book and transfer each stitch to the 18 count canvas. There went my money again!
Retail therapy is good for the soul!

I'm thinking about the new year. I want to focus more on selling my artwork. I have boxes filled with all my finished art projects. Need to start letting go of it. It's serving no purpose hidden away. I'm hoping someone will appreciate it. I have to think of a way to go about it. I've been procrastinating about doing this for years. IT"S TIME!!!.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS! Hope it's safe, healthy and happy.

I'm ready! Gifts are wrapped, meal is planned and I'm looking forward to having my son and grandchildren over. I keep forgetting they are not little anymore. No more toys. All grown up stuff. I kind of miss it.

Just finished needle felting the above dolls. I was tired of doing paper art.
I needed a break. Anyway, I think they are kind of cute. I wanted the earthy look.
Who knows what I'm going to do with them. It will probably be stored away with all my other stuff I've finished.

I won honorable mention in the "12 days of ChristmasTags" by Tim Holtz.
The yahoo group, ALL THINGS TIM, sponsered it. I Wonder what the prize is.

It's official that Bob, Sunny and I are taking off for Phoenix around the 8th of January. If all goes well, we plan to stay at least a month. We're renting rather than imposing on Barb this time. We are not staying too far from her house, so I can see her often.
Looking forward to getting away.

IF I HAD MY WAY

I'm so ready to move to a warmer climate. Winter isn't officially here yet and I'm done with it. It's been cold and snowy and I have no desire to be outside.
If all goes well and according to plan, Bob and I will be taking off for Phoenix in a few weeks. My goal is to be gone until April. We will firm up our plans this week...

Today was the end of the 12 Days of Christmas Tags. I truly loved creating my version of them. Above are Tags 11 and 12.

I so hate winter. At least I have a houseful of art supplies to keep me happy
and busy. The one plus is, I don't have to drive unless I want to. I'm totally

I'm keeping up with the Tim Tags. Just finished Day 9.

I lost my I Phone the other day. What a pain... Went two days without it and finally broke down and replaced it. Bad time of year to have an extra expense.

Went to the mall yesterday and caught up with some of my Christmas shopping. I got into the Holiday spirit. All the sales, decorations and music got me going.
Hannukah ends tonight. I'll put the menorah away and put up my very little tree, decorated with (believe it or not) the tags I'm making. It's nice being able to celebrate two holidays.

I can't believe how much I'm enjoying the Tim Tags. It's fun to wake up each morning and see what is on his blog for the next creative adventure of the day.

As I'm looking out the window and watching the first snow of the year, I yearn to be living in a warmer climate. I'm not a winter person. Thinking about going to Phoenix for the winter (seriously). Plans are in the making.

This year flew by... It was a good one for me and I hope for you too!
Anyway, I hope everyone is getting into the holiday spirit.

So far I've finished Day 1and 2.

I'm getting ready to start Day 3. The best is the inspiration I get from some of his ideas. I wish I had more of his Dies. Oh well, that's the challenge for me,

BACK FROM CRUISE

Had a wonderful time in Tim's classes. I actually finished all the projects as seen above.
I'm very happy with the end results and kudos to Tim for being such a great instructor.
He is very generous and is good at teaching. The curio cabinet was my favorite. We searched for stuff at each port to put in it. I guess it tells a story of our cruise. I also collected ephemera
for the travel journal.
The shabby Chic Patchwork collage was so much fun and I'll probably make another one.
We learned different ways to make flowers(using his products) for the tags.
My favorite port was St. John, New Brunswick. It was so quaint and had so much charm.
Bar Harbour was beautiful. Went to Acadia National Park and to a lobster bake.
Halifax was OK. It didn't have the charm I expected. It is busy city.
Went to the Witch museum in Salem . Enjoyed the tour. Portland and Boston were interesting,
Did not see enough of either city to really get a taste of it.
I'm glad to be home. 10 days at sea was a bit long for me. Overall, the trip was great. Met some interesting people from all over the world. There sure are alot of Tim admirers.

Our 50th High School reunion is this weekend. I decided not to go but, yesterday, I met Marion and Evelyn at theClub House for lunch. We had a good old time talking about our crazy days in high school and catching up with what's happening now.

It's hard to believe we're all in our late 60's, but still feel 30 (ha ha). Actually, I think we're doing very well for a bunch of senior citizens.

All joking aside, it felt like time had not passed at all. We still have fun together. We didn't shut up for a minute.

THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS

Only a week to go. Leaving for the cruise on the 29th. I get to spend another day in the Big Apple before cruising. Been busy making trades and planning what to bring with.

First time I've been to a retreat where we don't have to bring any supplies. I'm going to bring an extra suitcase just in case I bring stuff back(ha ha).

WONDERFUL TRIP

Had a hectic fast paced 2 1/2 days in NYC. We went to the Village, China Town, Time Square , a Broadway Play , We saw "In The Heights", The Wax Museum, New Pop Tart Store, Shopping
(Of course), Staten Island Ferry to see the skyline, we took the water taxi to Hoboken N.J,

to see Carlo's Bakery, and finally Central Park. We walked and walked and walked....

All in all, we had an invigorating , unforgettable experience.

After NYC, we headed to Lake George for a peaceful 5 days at a resort called Sagamore.

Spend quality time with my sister and family. Ate good food, sat around the pool, went boating and Miranda went parasailing. ( I chickened out). I prefer the craziness of NYC.

Now it's back to reality.

I really enjoyed spending a week with my Grandaughter. She certainly got a taste of the Big Apple...

OFF TO NEW YORK

I'm going to New York tomorrow with my grandaughter Miranda for a week of fun.

I will get to see my sister and other family members . It's kind of sad that we live so far apart.

It's a rare occasion that we see each other.

The first few days will be spent touring the Big Apple (Miranda has never been there). Hope to see a Broadway play and do the typical tourist stuff.

On Wednesday, we're all going to Lake George, in upstate NY, for 5 days. We're staying at a resort called Tagmore. I've been told it's beautiful. Hope to spend some quality time with Naomi, Rachel and Stella. CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!

Do I ever stick to one project?

The past week has been all "steampunk" Don't ask me why. I guess I am attracted to it.

I wanted to try my hand at beading instead of assemblege.

It's been a stormy week in the Chicago area. Alot of scary thunder and lightening. My dog Sunny hates it. Had him at the Vet yesterday. He's on 3 meds for an eye infection. (probably due to allergies) Poor baby!!!! Having a pet is just like having a child.

I hope to finish the airline reservations for the Tim Holtz Cruise today . I'm getting all pumped up. It's still 3 months away. I'm sure time will fly (as usual).

I finished the Fabric and Metal collage piece I started in Beryl Taylor's class at Valley Ridge

I enjoyed doing it, but I would certainly consider doing it a different way.

I would make a template first and plan it better. All considered, I

think it turned out O.K.

Now that I've completed this project, I'm thinking about doing some Steampunk stuff.

I love the old vintage rusty look. I certainly have enough stuff buried in boxes to create

a variety of jewlery.

I just emerged from the basement. What a mother load down there. I found tons of objects

and trinkets to play with. Shame on me for wanting to buy more!!! I don't need a thing.

BACK FROM VALLEY RIDGE RETREAT

Above is my unfinished project from Beryl Taylor's class at Valley Ridge, and a photo of

Cindy Katora , Beryl Taylor and myself.

I had a wonderful time at the retreat.

Valley Ridge, as usual, was a great experience. Loved the class with Beryl , enjoyed my fellow class-mates and felt I was being treated as someone special. Kathy and Bill really know how to treat their guests. I'm so glad they have started this venue and it's not so far from Chicago. (about a three and a half hour drive).

We stayed in Mineral Point (a forty minute drive from the studio.) Next time we will stay closer. I loved the quaintness and history of the sleepy old mining town filled with artisans and their galleries. The food was good too!

I hope to finish my project soon. I'll post it later.

OBSCESSED WITH BEADING

It's been forever since I've posted. I've been beading and working on a Tee Shirt Quilt.

I found out I am not a quilter. I was very frustrated. Actually, I didn't even finish it. I gave up and returned it to Tracy (my ex-daughter-in-law). I have to remind myself not to accept any requests for quilts again. UG

Give me some beads and I become transformed into another dimension. Go figure!!!

Now that summer is here, life is getting busy. I have three trips planned. I'm going to Valley Ridge this week-end for a Beryl Taylor retreat. I'm taking my granddaughter, Miranda, on a trip to NYC and lake George . My sister lives in NY. I will be spending time with her and my nieces.

At the end of September, Cindy and I are going on a Canadian Cruise with Tim Holtz.

In between my trips there are various events going on in the Chicago area. I'm planning to go to CHA and CREATE.(Mixed Media events).

Still involved with the Live ATC Group, a ledger swap and a bi-monthly get together with artist friends.

Keeping busy and creating is good medicine....

Sunday was our Creative Spirits Collage group meeting. We made inchies and then used them in our own creative away. It was a great day and as always, being with creative people makes me feel energized.

I'm inspired to do more. I think I'll use a cigar box next.

Ledgers sheets I've finished for swap.
One is RETRO ( which I seem to be into now) and WORDS. Since butterflies are my favorite thing, I decided to do a piece in different
languages

I'm into Shabby Chic for now. I took a workshop at Archivers and learned some techniques for Shabby Chic cards. I didn't like the ones in class. I went home and modified it so it wasn't as shabby.

I've been busy creating and having a good time with my Art Buddies. Been to our ATC live Swap, a day Retreat in Rockford, Saturday Meet-up in Warrenville, a crop at More than Memories and Play dates.

The biggest news is that Cindy and I are going on a 10 day cruise with Tim Holtz to Canada.

It's not until September. We're also going to Valley Ridge in June to take a work-shop with Beryl Taylor.

Something to look forward to. I'm excited.

Now that winter is almost over, I see good times ahead. This winter is too long.

No Phoenix this year. Saving money for the cruise.

I haven't been doing too much! The cold weather and snow have kept me in alot.

I've been working on various projects to keep pre-occupied, but nothing really worth

showing.

I've been crocheting like a crazy woman. It's mindless and I can do it in front of the TV. Been working on my ATC.s for the swap next week.

I've also joined the ledger swap again.(Picture above)

My topic is retro 50's. It was fun doing. It brought back so many good memories.

I've signed up for another on-line class with Mystele called "Art Sentiment". It starts next week. Can't wait!!!

I've also signed up for a week-end work shop at Valley Ridge. That's not until June.

I sure wish winter was over. I hate it with a passion. It's so confining.

I guess I won't be going to Phoenix this year. I'll miss seeing Barb and of course the nicer weather. OH WELL!

IT'S BEEN AWHILE

I can't believe a whole month has passed since I've written on my blog.

I really haven't been that busy with important stuff , Just lazy. I did have Thanksgiving Dinner here and made everything from scratch. As always, I was stressed out about the cooking. I'm not good at sit down dinners, but I loved having my family together. Keith ,Alex, Miranda,Paul, Mia, Carlos, Joni and David were here..

I've been jumping back and forth with alot of different projects. I have been needle felting, crocheting and I started a new needlepoint project. Other than that, I've been doing some more artwork and ATC'S for the Gut Art Group and ATC swap.

I feel a bit restless and can't find one project to stick with. I keep jumping back and forth. Nothing seems to be speaking to me. Maybe I need to learn something new. Hmmmm, I love the search and learning curve.

I'm already thinking of warm weather, sun and a nice trip to a warm climate and it isn't even winter yet. As you can tell, I'm not a winter person.

GUT ART

I can't believe this is the 4th week of Gut Art. The class went so fast. It has given me a whole new perspective on the way to do art. I'll miss checking into the web site every day and viewing everyone's comments, videos, art work, hints, feedback etc. I don't want it to end so soon.

MIRANDA"S CONFIRMATION

Miranda was confirmed yesterday. The service was well done and very emotional for me. I kept having flashbacks of the kids when they were little, sweet and innocent. Now they're all grown up. (almost) and maybe not so innocent.

I tried doing some Punch Needle embroidery this week. I was not comfortable with it. No patience for it. After many tries, I decided to put it away and go back to my beading.

Spent the week doing art. Haven't been out too much.

Actually, I took Keith out for dinner for his 46th birthday on Wednesday.

My baby is getting old (and so am I). WOW!

We went to "The Bank", a fairly new restaurant in down town Wheaton.

Food was good and so was the ambiance.

I just got back from my Art Group. Had a good time as usual. Didn't accomplish much. Too busy chatting and trying to solve world problems.

The GUT ART Class I'm taking has really been a great experience for me.

I'm loving every minute of it and I believe it has given me new confidence in my work.

I still can't get away from the same color palette ( rusts, golds, greens etc.). I need to try brighter colors.

I finshed the covers for my book. I'm really having a good time taking the on-line class. It's right up my alley. So far, I've enjoyed all the videos

Mystele has presented. I love her casual, but informative style.

I'm already finding myself less critical of my work. It does come from the gut and represents who I am. Can't wait to do more.

Yesterday was our monthly ATC SWAP Meeting. It was fun as usual, and I really think everyone did a wonderful job creating this month. I believe we are more comfortable with each other.

Today was Miranda's 15th Birthday party for the family.

Keith did a great job of hosting it. This was his first social event since the separation. I'm proud of him!!!! We had KFC and a Portillo's Decadent Chocolate Cake. (YUM)

I'm gearing up to host my first CLOSE TO MY HEART gathering. I need

to focus on it and order supplies and most important of all, invite some people....

Alot going on now! I've been busy making ATC's for the Saturday group. Just finished a new necklace and made a wall hanging at the art retreat last Sunday. (Photos above)

I have become a CLOSE TO MY HEART consultant and I've been trying to get things organized, so I can have a gathering. I've been making samples to display.

I also start my on- line class today called "GUT ART" Can't wait !!!

Life seems to be going along without hitches.

Fall is here. It's chilly and the leaves are beginning to change color.

As I say every year "It's nesting time" I want to CREATE!

I LOVE CHICAGO

Bob and I decided to go into the city on Friday. I forgot how much I miss it.
We drove to Navy Pier and spent a couple of hours walking , observing and than eating lunch.
After lunch we took the water taxi to North Michigan Ave
and walked to Milenium Park.
Of course, I had to stop at Fanny May to have ice cream.

We walked around the park and enjoyed all the sights. I love the bean and water fountain. My favorite part of the day was seeing all the
people.
I really felt like I belonged in the city.
I guess living there for 30 years brings back so many memories.
After a few hours of walking, we headed home.
We must do this again. It was really an enjoyable day.
Bob even liked it!!!
Now it's back to the sterile boonies. Why do I live here?

Lake Geneva

I treated my granddaughter
and a friend to a mini vacation in Lake Geneva Wisconsin. The girls spent most of their time swimming , shopping and just hanging out. Such typical teenagers!

EXTREME BEADING

I was going through Miranda's old toy
box which is being stored in my basement. I found
a little Care Bear from McDonalds.
I thought it would be fun to bead.

So, after two weeks of beading every nite, I ended up with an embellished bear which serves no purpose at all.
I guess it kept me relaxed and I actually had fun doing it.
Thre is something about bead embroidery that totally puts me in the zone..
My trades are done for AU.
Now it's the excitement of waiting for the day to come.

It's been over a month since I've posted.

I guess life gets in the way.

Aside from making ATC'S for the Live Swap groups, I haven't been doing much paper art.

I'm into beading again. I've created some more jewelry (I'm thinking of selling some when I'm ready).

June was also a month of life style change. My son moved in with us temporarily. I didn't know how to behave as a mother. I haven't lived with him for

over 20 years. I worried about his eating habits, health, well being etc. Since he's

a middle aged man and father of teenagers, I didn't know my boundries. In a way, I felt the roles were reversed.

He's back home for now and hopefully happier. He has his own space back and so do I.

I'm beginning to prepare for ART UNRAVELED. I'm getting excited and am looking forward to spending a week doing art and hanging out with artists.

I'm also planning to spend a day or two with Barb. Two more weeks of waiting. Thank goodness time seems to fly.

Since I joined Facebook, I've been involved with playing word games with friends and checking out what's happening with people I know (and even don't know). I feel more connected to the world...

MIRANDA GRADUATES

graduated from 8th grade yesterday. The short lady
next to her is me. I think

Anyway, it was a nice day.
We went out for lunch after the ceremony and then she opened presents.
Both grandchildren graduated this year.
This is it for four more years.
Nothing else is going on at the moment.
I'm creating more ATC'S for the swap tomorrow...

BUSY WEEK-END

On Saturday, Shari, Lynne and I took a road trip to Milwaukee for an ATC swap. (are we crazy or devoted to our art?) The entire day
was filled with fun and something different to do. The swap was held in a very organized fashion and I managed to get 20 new pieces of little art work.
After the swap we stopped to eat, browse a used book store (of course I bought some books to cut up for images) and indulged in some frozen custard. YUM!
Got home about 8:30 and began thinking about
the final things I had to get ready for the art retreat on Sunday.
We made tin dolls (the photo on the left). I only finished one and started one more.
I really enjoyed the day. I met new people and
found the experience to be totally relaxing.
The gathering was held in a log cabin at THE CENTER in Palos Hills. It's a non-denominational spiritual center to promote healing and enrichment thru the arts. They also have a chapel to hold services. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. There are log cabins all over and an abundance of old trees and flowers. It was so peaceful, I didn't want to leave. It was like an "oasis of calm in the middle of chaos". I'm so glad I had the experience.
I definitely will go back.

Our local Dick Blick is sponsering an ATC swap next week.
I thought it would be fun to participate.
It also inspired me to play around again with my very first endevor with collage and mixed media art.

I'm almost done with my needlepoint canvas. YEAH!!!!! It's taking forever. I'm proud of myself for sticking to it.
Spring has finally sprung and that always creates a happier frame of mind for me.

TIME TO MOVE ON

I have spent the past month of my life trying to design and stitch my own version of a Mexican Talvera tile.

Well, what a surprise! It's not so easy. I'm not a linear person and I don't like anything to be perfect . For some reason,

I expect this tile to be symmetrical and it's driving me crazy. I'm tired of ripping out stitches to make it look just right. Maybe it's time to walk away from it and give it a rest!

In my heart, I really believe I like the challenge and that's the exciting part for me! Hmmmmm, what should I do next? Let it go or

keep being obsessive?

HOME AT LAST

We've been home since Monday night.
Our last stop was the Grand Canyon. WOW! It makes me believe in something grander and more omni-potent.
Bob was in awe of it. It was his first time.
We stayed in Flagstaff the first night on the road. The second night, we stopped in Tucumcari NM and the third night, Joplin MO.
Every year I say, "Next time we FLY!"
It's really a long long drive...
Now that I've been home a few days, I'm beginning to feel normal again. I've caught up with everything . Even laundry. Three weeks worth (UG)

I've been working on the Talavera canvas which I've designed from scratch. I certainly admire all the artists who design and paint thier own canvasas. If you want it to be precise and exact, it becomes very intense. For me, it's all trial and error. I guess I love a challenge.....

I'm determined to finish it. So far, it looks pretty good....

TRIP WINDING DOWN

We finally saw the Chichuly exhibit at the Desert Botonical Gardens today. What talent that man has. His work is incredible.
Unfortunately, we didn't get to see the exhibit at a later time, when the sun is at a different angle.
Still awesome! Loved the different desert plants too! My favorite section was the Sonoran Desert.
All the Cactus were giant size.
Almost surreal.
We visited the butterfly garden also. There were some beautiful specimens flying around. I got some nice pictures.

It's time for a new camera. Mine is acting up . It only has 5 Mega Pixels and is too bulky to carry around.
If everything goes according to plan, we will be leaving Phoenix this Friday. I'm not looking forward to the long trip home, but it will nice to be in my own house again.
Barb has been the perfect hostess and makes us feel right at home.

HERE WE ARE

We arrived in Phoenix a week ago today. The trip was long and tiresome, but it was worth it. This time. a pebble hit the winshield and cracked it. We need to get it fixed before we head home. It's growing!
The weather has been perfect. SUN everyday and temps in the 70's and 80's.
Bob has been busy practicing golf and eating his way thru all the Deli's in town.
I took a 2 day work shop at Family Needle Arts. The designer, Kelly Clark, taught us how to embellish one of her new canvasas. It was fun. Barb and I are doing alot of stitching.
Again, we're planning to go the Grand Canyon. Not sure when.
The girls (Barb, Carol, Martha, Nancy and I) went to an art exhibit in Peoria, Friday night.
It was just OK..
We are planning to stay two more weeks. Will fill you in later!

WE'RE LEAVING FOR PHOENIX

It's strange how things work out. Bob and I were not planning to go anywhere this winter. Mainly due to expenses.
I was in a crappy mood earlier and decided to make a plane reservation to go visit Barb alone. When I mentioned it to Bob, he said, "why don't we drive and have a relaxing trip." HE SHOCKED ME....
So within a half hour I called Barb , made plans for Sunny and off we go!!!! We'll be leaving this week. Now that the initial shock is over, I'm getting excited. THIS HAS BEEN A LONG WINTER!!I'm so ready to go somewhere.

It's been a month since I've posted anything. I guess I've been so involved with my art journaling, I completely forgot about blogging.
I have been faithful to my journaling. I have created a new page every day for over a month and still am enthusiastic about it.
I believe joining a group helped alot. Thanks Kelly!
Some of my pages may be too personal to show to the world, so here are the a few that I don't mind sharing.
I'm still working on the granny squares for my afghan.
Not much else is happening. Last month was very peaceful, productive and quieter than usual.

JOURNALING

I just signed up for Kelly Kilmer's "A Prompt A Day" on line class. I was really impressed with her format. The photo is my journaling for Day 1.

The subject was "Your Favorite Childhood Toys"

I needed to get the juices flowing again. And so far, her prompts have helped me. Believe it or not, I did not have to go out and buy any supplies.

I went thru my stash and found an abundance of everything I needed.
I'm looking forward to each prompt and hopefully, I'll be able to do one a day. (at least for now)

We've had a break in the weather and I've been going out more. It was 30 degrees and sunny. It felt like spring.

Shari, Sandy and I actually got together for lunch yesterday. We spent

a few hours eating and chatting.

Blue skies, a warm ocean breeze, palm trees and flip flops!
Have you heard of the Law Of Attraction? I'm trying very hard.
This winter has been brutal.. If it's not snowing, the
temperature is sub zero. . It was so frigid tonight, my poor dog froze his paws and actually could not walk until he thawed out. (poor Sunny)
It's too dangerous for little dogs and all living things to be out in this.

I have not been creating much. My brain and body have become frozen just like the weather. I've been very lazy lately and am not too motivated to do much.
I'm beginning to get cabin fever. I've only been out once this week. I almost have to force myself to go out. I DEPLORE WINTER!
I hope my next post will be more upbeat...

HAPPY HANNUKAH

Tonight is the first night of Hannukah.
How things have changed! When I was a child this was the most exciting night of the year. The whole family got together. We ate our traditional dinner of potato latkes, brisket of beef and all the delicious side dishes. Afterwards we would light the menorah, sing songs and than open our first present. Since we got a present for eight nights there was always more to look forward to.

There are no traditions left. My family members (mom, dad, both grandmas, cousins, aunts and uncles) who kept these wonderful traditions alive, are no longer with us. My generation and my grandchildern's generation are no longer observing the holidays. We have so many mixed marriages that Christmas has become the holiday of choice.
It's funny how things work out. When I was young, I always wanted a Christmas tree. I felt a bit left out. Since most of our neigbors and friends
were not Jewish, they got to celebrate all the festivities of Christmas.
Christmas morning was just another day for my family .

Be careful what you ask for. Now I have the tree I wanted, celebrate the holidays with the rest of the world and have no one to participate in what I yearn for now, a real Hannukah celebration.
I'm going to light the first candle by myself! I can still keep the traditons
alive.

Everytime I look outside, my trip this winter to a warmer (snow free) climate becomes more inviting.

I'M SICK OF WINTER ALREADY

It's not even Dec. 21, and I'm sick of this climate. Each year my dislike for winter grows stronger.

It seems as if my entire life is revolving around this crappy weather.

Since I really hate to drive while it's snowing, I've been sticking around the house alot. Cabin fever is setting in. We're having another snow and ice storm at the moment. I 've been timing my outings between storms. I guess tomorrow will be another stay at home day... A good day to catch up with house work.

I have been doing alot of tea bag folding The medallions are very pretty and I love the designs that are being created, but again, what do I do with all the finished pieces?

Other than folding paper, I've been trying to needlepoint at night. It seems to put me to sleep. I start with good intensions but end up with very heavy eyelids and I start dozing. Maybe I should do it in the morning instead.

Can't believe I made an advent calender. I saw the one Shari made as a sample for the PRC group. I thought it was so cute and decided to make one too! It was fun, but so not me.
This Thanksgiving was a different. I cooked the entire dinner from scratch! It actually turned out delicious. Mia, Paul, Alex and Kay celebrated with Bob and I. The rest of the family was spread out all over the place. That's what happens when there are extended families.
Anyway, it was a nice day and enjoyed the company of who was here..

IT'S SNOWING! They are predicitng 6 to 8 inches. I really hate winter
and have fantasies of being in a warm climate .
Again, Bob and I had plans to be in Phoenix this winter, but unfortunately the economy sucks and we're afraid to spend extra money right now.
If all goes well, we might beable to go for a few weeks in January.

I'm trying to think of positive things to get me through this dull grey period. I'd like to get involved with a creative project that I've never done before. The creative process keeps my mind preoccupied and I love learning new things. All I'm doing right now is stitching a needlepoint canvas, but it's not challenging enough .
A new idea will come my way. It's perculating in my mind.

I guess my issues are nothing in comparison to what happend in India.
It's so sad and my heart goes out to anyone directly involved . My only wish for the Holiday Season is to see PEACE ON EARTH! What a gift that would be.
I don't understand why people have to be so violent.

Mary and I took Amtrak to Chambersburg Pa. The train ride was not bad at all. Didn't sleep much (even though we had a roomette) . We had a layover in Pittsburg and from there we went to Harrisburg. Terry picked us up at the train station and drove another hour or so to Chambersburg. We spent 3 full days visiting with Terry (photo above). It was nice to spend a couple of days doing art.

working on their colored pencil drawings. I sat around observing the people going in and out. It's difficult for me to create in public. I'm too distracted.

Chambersburg is a quaint town in South east Pa. Actually, it reminded
me of New England. The arcitecture was very similar. There were also many Victorian homes which were magnificent. The down town area
had a lot of resale and antique shops as well as restaurants and small businesses. Could I live there? NO. Not enough going on.
Anyway, I'm home. I spent all day yesterday sleeping on the couch to catch up with my lack of sleep.

TIME TO BRAG AGAIN

I can not believe my cute little grandson Alex has grown into a handsome young man. The above picture is from his Home Coming Dance.
He will be graduating high school this year (sigh). At the moment he is applying to different colleges . He has already been accepted to two.
I guess I can go on and on as a proud grandma , but I wont. All I can say is he's a good kid!

The election stuff is finally getting to me. Enough is Enough!!!!!
I sure wish it was over so we can get on with our normal lives.
I know one thing, if Obama doesn't win, I want to move to another country..... I can't imagine living here with McCain as President and worse yet, Sarah Palin as a possible president. What is going on? Are people blind? Only three more days and we will know the future of our country.

This week has been filled with creative ideas, but nothing has been executed. I have been cutting up magazines for images. I'm planning to make a mini soul collage deck. It's kind of a challenge to go so small. Actually, I'm going from 5X7 to 2.5X3.5 (ATC size)
I'm also stitching alot. I want to finish a canvas I started many years ago.

I'm off to Pennyslvania this Thursday for a visit with Terry. She is an art friend who moved a couple years ago. Mary G. and I are taking a train and plan to stay about 4 days. It should be relaxing and fun. I'm looking forward to the train ride. There's nothing to do but relax on a train .
I'm sure I'll have stories to tell when I get bcak!

I bought the book "Mixed Media Self-Portraits" by Cate Coulacos Prato.

I'm really enjoying it. I even tried some digital portraits as seen above.

I call them "The Young and Old of Me!" In a way, I find this to be self-healing and at the same time a bit self centered. I guess it's just another art form. I'm planning to use other techniques in the book, but with other people. Enough of me!!!!

This week has been a roller coaster ride as far as my financial life is concerned. I keep forgetting I AM retirement age and the small amount of money I do have invested is dwindeling away. I normally don't put any energy or worries into my financial state, but this time I am concerned about what will be left. This is the first time in my life I have to set up a budget and adhere to it.

The Crisis we are all experiencing is no thanks to our current administration and I hope the new president will bring a turn to our economy. GO OBAMA!

I got together with my art friends yesterday. Actually, I'm so glad we are all on the same page as far as our art interests and politics go. I didn't get

much accomplished , we were too busy talking and eating. I believe the socializing is just as important as our art.

It's a beautiful sunny and crisp autumn day. I want to get out and enjoy all the wonderful colors before winter sets in .

I'm beginning to nest and my mind is on warm comforting things.

I'm even making beef stew today in the slow cooker. (It smells so good)

Hot chocolate is even sounding good to me!

MY CRAZY FAMILY

I had the most wonderful time this week-end. My sister Naomi , my niece Rachel and her daughter Stella came to visit from New York.

They wanted to do a week-end in the city. I took the train in on Friday and met them at thier hotel.

We started out shopping on the Magnificent Mile, ate lunch at the Cheese

Cake Factory, and than shopped some more . It was late afternoon when we got back to the Hotel. We took advantage of Happy Hour and spent hours hanging out. My brother Joel, my sister Joni ,her partner David and Mia were there too! Oh, and Riley (my brothers friend) joined us too. He was the life of the Party. He's off the wall!

After hours of drinking and talking we went to eat dinner. Unfortunately most of the restaurants had at least an hour wait so we found a small little Mexican Restaurant and ate and talked more.

Saturday morning we started out by walking to Millenium Park (my first time there) , played in the Bean, took pictures and than went to the Art Institute for a few hours. After that we took the Ferry Taxi to Navy Pier.

We walked around, went on the Ferris Wheel and ate again.

My sister Joni invited everyone over for a Party Saturday Night.

My entire family was there. (17 of us) .

The pictures above indicates how silly we got. We danced, played drums laughed and ate again.

I'm so glad we had the opportunity to be together for a few days. It was so much fun!

We need to make it a point to do this at least once a year. FAMILY IS

TOO IMPORTANT and i am blessed to have three siblings who have made our family larger and more fun to be with.

My mom and dad would have loved seeing us all together having such a good time.

Anyway, it's back to reality!

Tuesday 9/23

Shari, Sandy and I decided to take advantage of the wonderful weather we were having and went to Cantigny Park in Winfield. Of course, we stopped to eat lunch first.
The grounds are so beautiful and peaceful. We had a great afternoon,walking, talking,and taking photos of the beautiful plants and flowers.

Today is Bob's birthday! Can't believe he's 66. He's doing what he loves best, Golfing 18 holes.

Wednesday 9/24
I started a new canvas today. I guess I was in the flow. The whole day flew by. Still have alot to do before it's finished.
My friend Kay came over to visit in the evening. We've known each other more than 3o years. It's fun to reminisce and have a few good laughs
over some of the goofy things we did when we were younger.

The last few weeks have been a big blur. Now that my abscessed tooth is healed, I can think clearly again.

The only thing I did was sit in front of the TV and bead. There was no motivation to get out and do things. I felt numb and sorry for myself.

Now that I'm back in the swing of things, I'm looking forward to

creating and participating in the outside world again..

Some of my artwork is being displayed at Gallery 200 in West Chicago

along with other members of WOMENS WISDOM from the Peoples Resource Center. I went to visit the gallery on Saturday. I was very impressed with the display and every one's art work. Most of the projects were taught by Shari. GREAT JOB AND CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL WHO PARTICIPATED.

I even sold a piece. The details for the sale are being made.

I wasn't planning to sell. I just wanted to participate and be part of Womens Wisdom. This is an added bonus.

Maybe this will motivate me to do more collage work. I really enjoy it.

The sun is shining the weather is warm and it's the first day of fall.

Time to go out and play!!!!!

IN SPITE OF IT ALL

I decided to bite the bullet and try to forget the cronic tooth ache I've had for the past week. It won't go away. The dentist put me on an anti biotic for the abscess. I see the endodontist tomorrow. Hopefully they will do a root canal so I can get back to a normal life. Whatever that is.
Anyway, in spite of it all I decided get out and to do stuff this weekend. I got together with the Saturday group and did some art. It's nice when a group of women can sit around and talk about anything. The topic of the day was Sarah Palin and the election. Actually, we were on the same page. I'm glad we all had such negative feelings about the McCain-Palin ticket.
Today was the Bead Show. It was OK. It wasn't very big and there was not much I wanted to buy. I purchased a kit for a Nedeble stitch bracelet and a few cabochons that were on sale. It took about 1 hour to get thru the whole show and see everything.
Cindy and I went out to eat afterwards. I was home before 4:00.
This week has been slow as far as creativity goes. I'm just not feeling it.
I sure hope this coming week will be more productive.

JUST HANGING OUT

Nothing very exicitng is happening in my life at the moment.

I seem to be spending alot of time watching the conventions and all the hoop-la . I hate the media vultures and the lies being told. POLITICS SURE IS DIRTY! Even so, it keeps me interested.

I have been busy sorting all my graphics . I can't believe how many magazines and books(shame on me) I've cut up. I have a great collection

to go thru when I need a picture for my art work. I seem to have a large

collection of ethnic people. Is that anything new for me?

It seems as if I have spent the past few weeks planning and thinking about what I want to create. I haven't done much as far as manifesting anything. !

Last Tuesday Sandy and I got together and made tiles from polymer clay. It was fun and I plan to do more. The above photo represents some of my tiles.

I've also made some more cloth beads (not worth showing) Now I need to incorporate them into a new project.

I can't believe I broke down and bought the BIND-IT ALL. Hobby Lobby was having a 30% off sale on all their Zutter products. Of course I fell for it.

Time to get dressed and go out in the world. The mornings go too fast!!

HASTE MAKES WASTE

Sandy, Belinda and I got together yesterday to play. We each created a wire bracelet. Had a great time. It's fun getting together with art friends.
We're doing it again next week.

I actually like the way my bracelet turned out. The only problem is that I made it too small. It's even too small for me. I miscalculated the size.

It would probably fit a little girl ( not that she would wear that style).

I'm going to keep it as a reminder to slow down and be patient........

I'm inspired to do another one. MEASURE CAREFULLY!

I ran into Tracy (my daughter in-law) at Culver's today. Shame on me for eating their Hamburger. It was dripping with butter, but oh sooooo good!

The fries were good too and than I stopped at Dairy Queen for a cone.

It feels good to be bad once in awhile!

Anyway, my grandson Alex has an interview on Monday with the Baseball coach at Elmhurst College. It's for a scholarship. Wouldn't that be great! It would take a big financial load off of Keith and Tracy if he gets it. I'm hoping for the best!

I can't believe I'm a grandmother with a grandson starting college. My God, where did the time go?

Sandy and I had a good time creating today. We made paper cloth following the instuctions in Berl Taylor's book. Well, I deviated a little.

It was messy but had a ball. They are on the basement floor drying.

We worked downstairs today because we knew it would be messy.

Actually, it wasn't so bad being down there. At least I don't have to worry about ruining anything. All I need is better lighting and dry wall and I'd probably use it more.

They are still very wet and it's difficult to imagine how they will look dry. So far I like what I see.

Above is my newest collage. I did this the other day. I like the saying on it "Soothe My Soul" That's exactly how I felt after my mishaps last week.

Buster is gone. I think I really miss him. He was here for three weeks.
I have some cute pictures of him and Sunny. I'll upload them later.
